Role-PlayingConfirmedNo
A lot of MacOS games are coming out in 2019. A whole lot. Thus, we have to be very selective in choosing which games make this list. So, how did we pull these particular games to the top? By focusing on these criteria:

Native MacOS support

Obviously, the game has to run natively on macOS; no Wine, Parallels or Bootcamp needed.

Hype level

Here’s where we get more subjective, but rest assured each of these games has something very important going for it. It could be a much-anticipated sequel to a popular Mac game, it could be the developer’s name/pedigree, or it could be that we just really like the concept.

Regardless of the reason, we’re buying into the hype for each of these titles and agree they should be on your radar.

Confirmed Mac version

It’s always tempting to hype games that could, mayble, make it to MacOS. If a developer has always supported MacOS for all of its previous games, it should support MacOS for its latest game too, right? Not always.

For that reason, we prefer not to get your hopes up and only cover games that have been officially announced for Mac or directly confirmed to Mac Gamer HQ via email.

There’s an awful lot to consider here, we know, but that’s a good thing. Whether you were waiting for a new entry in your favorite genre or looking to branch out into something different, the new Mac games of 2019 will give you plenty of options. Go ahead and get hyped for a few long-awaited sequels, get ready to dig into a few games that your Windows-using friends are already playing, or get something completely new when it becomes available.

If you are enjoying (or waiting for) a new game that we didn’t cover here, be sure to let us know. We’re always on the lookout for the next big game!

F1 2017 is a racingvideo game based on the 2017 Formula One season.[1] It was released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows on 25 August 2017.[2] The game includes all of the twenty circuits, twenty drivers and ten teams competing in the season. The macOS version, developed by Feral Interactive, was released simultaneously with the other versions, a first in the series' history.[3] The Linux version, also by Feral Interactive, was released on 2 November 2017.[4] The game featured the initial driver line ups for the 2017 Formula One season, substitute drivers Jenson Button, Antonio Giovinazzi, Pierre Gasly, Brendon Hartley and Paul di Resta, although all driving in FIA Formula One races during the 2017 season, were not included in the game.

Features[edit]

The game features in-game commentary from David Croft and Anthony Davidson. The game also features an expanded team management mode, which offers players more control over research and development of car parts.[5] Engine components and gearboxes are subject to wear and will ultimately fail, with players receiving grid penalties for exceeding their quota of components.[5]

The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)—the governing body of international motorsport—will support F1 2017 as a platform for eSports, following similar moves by Formula E and the World Rally Championship.[6] A variety of race formats are available to players after the sport's commercial holders expressed an interest in using gaming to trial potential race formats.[7] The game features historic Formula One cars—which were last included in F1 2013—drawn from 1988 to 2010.[8][9]

The game also included a competition for players to design their own racing helmets, with the seven winning designs included in the game.[10][11]

It was the first game to be used in the Formula One eSports Series, which also debuted in 2017.[12]

The initial reception to the game was positive, with motorsport magazine Autosport praising it for adding depth to all of the features introduced in F1 2016.[21]The Daily Telegraph praised the game for its updates on previous titles, calling it one of Codemasters' best games. IGN was similarly complimentary for being faithful to the details of its subject, while GameSpot's review echoed Autosport's response. GamesMaster said it was 'A superb, technical racer. F1 fans will love the career mode, but be disappointed by the classic content.'[14]

The game reached number 2 in the UK PS4 sales chart, behind Uncharted: The Lost Legacy,[22] but topped the XO charts.[23] The PlayStation 4 version sold 7,190 copies in Japan in its debut week, placing it at 11 on the sales charts.[24] It reached number 2 in Australia, and 4 in New Zealand.[25]

Alphr put it at number 6 on their list of the best racing games on PS4 2017.[26] The game was nominated for 'Best Racing Game in IGN's Best of 2017 Awards,[27] and for 'eSports Game of the Year' at the 2018 SXSW Gaming Awards;[28][29] and won the award for 'Best Racing Game' at The Independent Game Developers' Association Awards 2018.[30][31]
